What does your business do?
Online clothing boutique that sell stylish clothing for women with full body figures and curves.
When and why did you start the biz?
I launched my online boutique in October 2018. I was injured at my 9-5 and decided I wanted to go in business for myself and so I can have something to leave my children.
How Many People are in your Company?
Just me...
Where's your office?
I have turned a corner in my bedroom into my home office. Inventory in my spare room and photo area in a corner in my living room. I'm totally utilizing corners in my home.
What's the toughest part of running your biz?
The toughest part is handling my inventory profit spreadsheet. Sometimes I forget to enter prices when an item is sold so I can see what my profit is. Also finding true to size vendors. It's very disappointing to get inventory that is not true to size.
What's the most fun part?
I love being the face of my boutique. I enjoy modeling the clothes and engaging with my Instagram and facebook audience and customers. I'm a social butterfly that loves working for herself.
Anything you would have done differently?
I would have created a profit spread sheet from the beginning. Since I just started the spreadsheet I don't have the actual profit numbers. I am actually learning as I go and have not run into anything that has hurt my business.
What's next on the horizon for your biz?
Oh boy I can't wait to turn my online boutique into a storefront. I am so ready to be able to have full time physical engagement with my customers.
What advice do you have for others?
I have encouraged a number of customers to take that step of faith and start their own business. If the idea pops up in your mind then rest assure a multitude of people on this earth will benefit from it, because someone has that of it too. Don't go in thinking you will get rich quick and that you don't have to WORK because it all takes time and yes you do have to put in the work to see your growth and profit. Keep in mind it's your 9-5 and all of it is for YOU not an employer.
How do you use Idea Cafe to help your biz?
Just by browsing through the site I can see where Idea Caf¨¦ will be very useful to me. It appears to be a place where I can come for what I call online networking. I can get ideas from others small business owners. I can give ideas and suggestions about my experience. Looks like I can get informative information on marketing, legal issues, planning etc. This site will certainly be one that I keep in my favorites and look at often if not daily.
School (where, still in school, degree)?
I have a Bachelor's in Psychology
Prior jobs or business?
My last job I was with 7 years as a Community Manager for affordable housing for elderly and disable. Prior to that I've worked in education field.
Favorite Food?
Give me my BURGERS.....
What are your pets' names?
Her name was Pepper. We had her for 14 years before she went to pet heaven.
Do any of these pets help with your biz?
No
Is there any one person or event in your life that led
you to go into business for yourself?
The injury from my 9-5 is what lead me to put all my passion into something for myself. Plus my sister who had her own store at a local flea market.
Anyone you publicly want to thank?
This may sound weird but I thank my 9-5 injury. I had already had thoughts of leaving that job once the company focus switched to money and not our elderly/disable clients. Had the injury not occurred when it did I would probably not have come this far with my boutique.
